This is dangerous territory, my friends. Is this bunny really happy? I did burst out in laughter the second I saw this bunny though. Heh.

As the Koreans say as they stick out their tongues, “Meh-rong!”

Lifesaving Puppypile Is Made of Happy

The title of the article is Puppies save three-year-old boy lost in freezing Virginia woods. Yes, this story is as awesome as you imagine.

A toddler lost in the Virginia woods was back home safe Sunday thanks to two puppies who kept him warm through a harrowing night of freezing temperatures.

Jaylynn Thorpe, 3, wandered away from his baby-sitter at 4 p.m. Friday and was missing for 21 hours as hundreds of friends, family and law enforcement officials searched for him in the thick woods of Halifax County, fearing the worst.

Officials said the lost little boy and the two family puppies wandered up to a mile in the dark, even across a highway, but it wasn’t until Saturday afternoon that members of the search team found him sitting by a tree, the two puppies nestled against him.

“When I first saw him, he was like, ‘Momma, I got cold. I slept in the woods last night. The puppies kept me warm.’ He told me that … the dogs slept up against him. And I’m sure the body heat kept him warm,” said his mother, Sarah Ingram.

So glad you were found, little guy! And that your little puppy friends kept you warm and safe throughout the night. Your loyal puppies are made of happy!

New Homes For Katrina Victims Are Made of Happy

Leonard Riggio, the chairman of Barnes and Noble, made a $20-million contribution. WOW. This story came out right around Christmas, but it’s still awesome. I will break my resolve to spend less money and buy a book from B&N this week. 🙂 Thanks, Mr. Riggio, for making Katrina families so happy!

Martha Stewart + Snoop Dogg?! Is Made of Happ…izzle?!

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

I have no photo or video with the right copyright to post here. I also have no words. I am not a particular fan of Martha Stewart or Snoop Dogg. I am, however, grinning from ear to ear at the strange camaraderie they show on this clip. Featured are: letters from Snoop to “MS”, comparing “posses”, and a cognac bottle shaped like a woman. You’d think this would be some sort of ill-natured, “ha ha, look how stupid they are” kind of trainwreck video, but instead, this is simply charming and adorable.

Are geek love ballads the new nerdcore? If so, I am made of happy because I love geek love!

Giving Away Art Is Made of Happy

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Bren Bataclan’s cheerful cartoon creatures have been exhibited in some high places: at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, in Logan International Airport and even on a Girl Scout patch.

But lately he’s been leaving his artwork outside unemployment offices and closed-down retail stores across the country bearing the note: “Everything is Going to Be Alright – This Painting is Yours to Take.”

“The economy is so bad now. People are losing their jobs, so this is how I can help,” said Bataclan, 39, as he propped an acrylic painting of a horned creature with googly eyes and fangs next to an Embarcadero BART ticket machine on Friday.

Since 2003, the Smile Boston Project has taken him around the world. Wanderers have found his paintings at the Eiffel Tower, on park benches in Japan, at Graceland, along the canals of Venice, in penguin territory in Antarctica, on a cafe table in New York.

“I never in my life thought I would be doing this full time, but it’s the best job I’ve ever had,” Bataclan said.

A newlywed who adored, but couldn’t afford one of Bataclan’s paintings of a husband and wife later found the art piece on a park bench. The first person to take a free Bataclan had just had her first chemotherapy treatment.

via Boston artist leaves paintings in S.F. for free.

See his art (I couldn’t find any photos of his art that I would be allowed to post here) and the rest of his project at They are incredibly cute. The SF Gate article above had a video segment where people find his art at the Embarcadero BART station: video link.

He leaves a note with the paintings that says, “this painting is yours if you promise to smile at random people more often.” On his site, you can see the stories of people who have found his paintings.

Thanks, Bren Bataclan, for being so awesome and giving people a little bit of a bright spot in these dreary times. You are not only made of happy, but you’ve made others happy.

A Townful of Honest Customers Is Made of Happy

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Shopkeeper Tom Algie faced a dilemma over Christmas  -  how to give himself and his three staff time off but without letting down his customers.

So he came up with a solution to suit everyone: leaving the hardware store open with an honesty box.

He left a note telling shoppers who came in on Boxing Day to serve themselves and then leave their payment in the box he had rigged up. Perhaps astonishingly, his plan worked.

Neat! Another thing that restores my faith in humanity. He made  £187.66 and two euros on the day that he left his store unlocked with a note to pay in the box. Wow.

Thanks, awesome people of Settle! You guys are totally made of happy. 🙂
